Wild Stories – Humpback Whales
Did you know?
A humpback whale’s heart weighs nearly 200kg (440lb), as much as 3 human beings.
Each year humpback whales undertake a 5000 km (3,100 mi) migration from tropical waters in winter to polar waters in summer.
As recently as 1988, humpback whales were listed as endangered by IUCN. Populations have now recovered, due to the introduction of commercial whaling bans, although some populations continue to be under threat.
